Verizon to offer 12 months free Disney+ at launch

Verizon announced a deal with the Walt Disney Company to offer Disney+ free for 12 months to Verizon customers. Verizon mobile customers on an unlimited plan, new Fios Home Internet and 5G Home Internet customers will gain access to the streaming video service when it launches 12 November. 

Verizon has made similar offers in the past, such as a year of free Netflix for Fios customers, Apple Music included with its top unlimited plans and YouTube TV and Apple TV with its 5G home internet service. The deal with Verizon, the US' largest mobile operator, will give Disney immediate scale for its new SVoD service. 

Verizon said it will be the exclusive wireless carrier for Disney+ its first 12 months. Verizon customers can activate the offer from the launch date.

Google is partnering with Verizon in the US to promote its new cloud gaming service Stadia. Starting 29 January, new Verizon Fios Gigabit internet customers will get a Stadia Premiere Edition starter pack free. This includes a controller, a free three-month Stadia Pro subscription for access to games in up to 4k/60fps, and a Google Chromecast Ultra to stream games to the TV set.

Canal Plus is in advance talks with Disney for the exclusive distribution of streaming service Disney+ in France, according to information gathered by La Lettre A. The broadcaster, which already offers Disney channels within its pay-TV offering, plans to make Disney+ available as an add-on and as part of a bundle, in line with the options open to customers who want to access Netflix on the Canal Plus platform.

Verizon revenues go 0.9% higher in Q3, boosted by mobile, subscriber gains

Verizon said revenues for the third quarter rose 0.9 percent from the year earlier to USD 32.9 billion, helped by higher revenues at mobile, partially offset by lower mobile equipment revenue and declines in legacy wireline revenue, mainly in the Business segment.
