WhatsApp has released more information about its planned update of its privacy policy. Users of the app will see a banner appear that they can tap to view the policy and a list of FAQs. In addition, the company is using the Status section in the app to provide more information on its policies.
WhatsApp first announced the update in January, saying it was centred on improving business communications and shopping over the app. However, concerns that the update meant increased data sharing with parent company Facebook prompted calls from users and regulators for the company to turn back the changes. In the end, WhatsApp agreed to postpone the update until May, while it works on explaining better the changes.
In a blog post WhatsApp reiterated its commitment to end-to-end encryption and warned against other apps that may claim they cannot see personal messages, but do not provide the same level of protection. Similar messages on its "values" and updates will be shared over the Status feature directly within WhatsApp. "We’ll be doing much more to make our voice clear going forward," the company said.
