Xiaomi launches own smart speaker, Mi 5X phone

Xiaomi is entering the smart speaker market with the launch of the Mi AI speaker. The small column features music control buttons on the top as well as a voice-activated assistant to control the device. Selling for CNY 299 from August, the speaker comes with an array of six microphones and optional add-ons and plug-ins available online. 

Xiaomi also unveiled the latest version of its smartphone user interface, MIU9, adding a 'smart assistant' for improved search on devices as well as accelerated processing and increased haptic feedback. The new UI will launch first in China, before rolling out in the rest of the world. 

Also new at its latest product unveiling are the Mi 5X smartphone with advanced camera features. It will sell for CNY 1,499. In addition, the Mi 6 is now available in a silver colour, for CNY 3,999.

Kakao AI speaker sold out in 38 minutes on 1st day of preorders

South Korean mobile messenger operator Kakao reports that its artificial intelligence (AI) speaker was sold out on the first day of preorders. Kakao sold 3,000 units of its Mini devices allocated for preorders in 38 minutes, Yonhap news agency reports. The official price of the Kakao Mini was set at KRW 119,000 (approximately USD 105). However, the device was available for KRW 59,000 on preorder.

Kakao unveils AI-based Kakao Mini smart speaker

South Korean mobile messenger operator Kakao has showcased its smart speaker, dubbed 'Kakao Mini'. The device will be commercially available across the country later this month, Yonhap news agency reports. The Kakao Mini will include the 'Kakao I' artificial intelligence platform, along with voice recognition and software that can understand natural languages.

Xiaomi plans 'global launch' event 05 September in India

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi announced plans for a "global launch" event on 05 September in India. On its Twitter account, the company said the new device will have a "flagship dual camera". This may mean a global launch of its Mi 5X smartphone, released in China in late July. Some reports have suggested the company also could release a version of the Mi 5X running stock Android or the Android One software for emerging markets.

Robi accepts pre-orders for Xiaomi Mi6

Bangladeshi operator Robi started taking pre-orders for the Xiaomi Mi6 smartphone at its e-commerce portal, Robi Shop. The customers who make the pre-order through Robi Shop get two years official warranty and the additional Mi Band 2 as a gift. Furthermore, the customers will also get 10GB internet data. Xiaomi Mi6's is priced at BDT 44,990.

Xiaomi plans expansion in eastern Europe

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi announced plans to expand to Europe. Xiaomi Director Liu Yi told German paper Handelsblatt that the company's products will launch soon in 12 countries, including Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Greece. Xiaomi launches Mi Note 2, Mi Mix concept smartphone

Xiaomi has unveiled its Mi Note 2 smartphone and the Mi Mix concept phones in Beijing.
