Yahoo ups revenues, profit in Q1 as it nears Verizon close

Yahoo said revenues for the first quarter advanced to USD 1.327 billion from 1.087 billion the year before, with the net result reaching USD 99 million, higher than the loss of 99 million recorded the year before, but lower than the 162 million gain in the fourth quarter. Earnings per diluted share went up to USD 0.10 from a loss of 0.10 year-on-year while the adjusted EBITDA lifted to USD 188 million from 147 million.

CEO Marissa Mayer said the company was now entering its final quarter as an independent company and that it was planning its integration with Verizon, which agreed in July to buy Yahoo's web activities. Mayer expects the transaction to close in June.

Yahoo’s display revenue was off 2 percent to USD 456 million despite a 2 percent increase in the number of ads sold, while mobile revenue strengthened to USD 412 million from 260 million and accounted for 25 percent of traffic-driven revenue. Revenue increased at Yahoo's Mavens strategic areas to USD 529 million from 390 million the year before. Total traffic driven revenue went higher to USD 1.271 billion from 1.034 billion.

Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities amounted to USD 8.021 billion at the end of March, up from 7.130 billion the year earlier.
