BT appoints new technology, service, operations CEO

BT Group has announced the appointment of Howard Watson as the CEO of BT Technology, Service and Operations (BT TSO) and Group Chief Information Officer. Watson is currently BT Chief Architect and MD Global IT Platforms, and will replace Clive Selley who is taking over as CEO of Openreach.

BT TSO manages the company's internal and external platforms, including TV, Mobile and Conferencing, as well as BT's R&D unit at Adastral Park, Suffolk. BT TSO employs 12,000 staff and 8,000 contractors worldwide.

BT Group CEO Gavin Patterson has written to all 650 UK MPs warning that investment will drop if BT Openreach is broken up, forcing homes to wait longer for broadband access, reports The Telegraph. New build homes to get fibre broadband connectivity

The UK Government has reached an agreement with Openreach and the Home Builders Federation (HBF) to provide new build properties with superfast broadband connectivity. The agreement will see fibre based broadband offered to all new developments either for free or as part of a co-funded initiative. It is estimated that more than half of all new build properties can be connected to fibre broadband free of charge to developers.

BT has launched an upgraded version of its TV app for Apple and Android devices. The upgraded app features a dedicated kids' on-demand and catch-up library, seven more channels and a wide collection of premium entertainment catch-up content. Despite GBP 1.7 billion of taxpayers' money being used to subsidise the construction of UK high-speed broadband, there are still 5.7 million people who cannot access the internet at the minimum 10 Mbps speed required by Ofcom, according to a new report from MPs. BT TV upgrades data storage with NetApp

BT TV has selected data storage and management company NetApp to upgrade its data storage infrastructure, reports Rapid TV News. BT TV has deployed the network-attached storage platform to support live streaming and help eliminate service outages. BT appoints Selley as new Openreach CEO

BT has announced the appointment of Clive Selley as the new CEO of Openreach. He will take up this post in Q1 2016 to replace Joe Garner, who is to become CEO of Nationwide Building Society. Selley is currently CEO of BT Technology, Service and Operations (BT TSO), as well as Group Chief Information Officer. He also chairs BT's cyber security council. His successor at BT TSO will be announced in due course.
