Cox, Juniper Networks invest in edge computing specialist StackPath

StackPath, a start-up active in edge computing, announced that Juniper Networks and Cox Communications have led a Series B round of equity financing for the company. This brings the total amount of equity raised by StackPath to USD 396 million, including an earlier Series A round led by Abry Partners. The additional capital will accelerate the growth of StackPath's product development, engineering and go-to-market activities.

Kevin Hutchins, Senior Vice President, Strategy and Corporate Development for Juniper Networks, and Sujata Gosalia, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for Cox Communications, have joined StackPath's board of directors following the investment. Juniper is already a supplier to StackPatch as well as a customer, using its platform to deliver products to customers. Cox is also deploying the StackPath platform in its network.

Launched from stealth in 2016, StackPath offers a platform to build and run applications on edge networks. The company said it has a diverse customer base that includes Fortune 500 enterprises, as well as individual developers in industries ranging from digital media and digital gaming to advertising technology, software development and e-commerce.

StackPath picks CommScope to help expand cloud capacity

Edge computing specialist StackPath said it selected CommScope to support the expansion of its cloud capacity across twelve global sites. CommScope's Professional Services team will manage the upgrade of StackPath's data centres. This covers the installation of new switches, power distribution units and network cabling, as well as the decommissioning of equipment, asset tagging and recovery, packaging, logistics, and warehousing in preparation for future redeployment.

Cox Enterprises appointed Jennifer Hightower as SVP, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective  4 October. Hightower will report to EVP and CFO Dallas Clement. Cox Enterprises named Steve Rowley as the new president of Cox Automotive, effective 3 August. He takes over for president and CEO Sandy Schwartz, who moves to a role as CEO of the Cox Family Office. Keith Holmes, SVP of Residential Sales for Cox Communications, will become EVP, Cox Business.

Juniper Networks misses Q1 guidance, sees better Q2 after orders up 10%

Juniper Networks reported first-quarter revenues of USD 998 million, unchanged year-on-year and down 17 percent from the fourth quarter. Sales came in below expectations due to disruptions to production from the Covid-19 crisis, the company said. Orders remained strong, up 10 percent year-on-year, leading to a forecast for sequential revenue growth in Q2.

Cox uses virtual assistance to support customers at social distance during Coronavirus crisis

Cox Communications launched "On-site with Virtual Assist," a tool to enhance customer service while better protecting customers and Cox employees during the Covid-19 pandemic. Cox partnered with Help Lightning, a supplier in remote expertise technology to bring this new service to market. This allows Cox technicians to handle service requests from outside.
