France Telecom's Lombard steps down as CEO
France Telecom group chairman and CEO Didier Lombard will ask the board of directors on 24 February to separate the functions of chairman and CEO from 1 March. Lombard will keep the position of chairman, with responsibility for the definition of group strategy and technological operations. France Telecom's current CEO delegate, Stephane Richard, will become CEO, with management responsibility for group operations. Richard will be in charge of new industrial projects and the new social contract with the workforce, set to be presented in the next few weeks. Lombard was initially due to leave France Telecom in the spring of 2011, but his internal position and public image were compromised by a wave of employee suicides last year. Richard joined the company in September 2009 with a view to succeeding Lombard. He took over operations in France from Louis-Pierre Wenes in November.
