German smart home market to growth by 26 percent over next 4 years

The German smart home market is forecast to grow on average by 26.4 percent over the next four years as devices continue to proliferate in the country, found a new study by German internet association Eco. The market segments for energy management and lighting and for window controls will record the highest revenues in this period of EUR 1.3 billion and EUR 1.2 billion respectively. The market for consumer electronics will grow on average by 21.8 percent per year until 2022.

The report found that "significant" investments are required in Germany's digital infrastructure for the smart home market to fully develop, including a greater number of fibre connections and a functional 5G network.

More and more Germans go online via smartphone but shun VR goggles

More and more people in Germany are using a smartphone for their internet access and a rising number go online on a larger screen as well, but Virtual Reality goggles are not penetrating the market, according to the TNS Convergence Monitor from Kantar TNS. Smart speakers fast becoming 'invaluable' for German households - Strategy Analytics

Smart speakers like the Amazon Echo or Google Home are quickly becoming an "invaluable tool" for many Germans and could become widely established in German homes over the next few years, according to a new study from Strategy Analytics. The research suggests that shipments of smart speakers in Germany will reach 6.1 million units in 2018, a 185 percent from last year. Amazon had a market share of 58 percent during the second quarter, followed by Google at 31 percent, they said.

One quarter of Germans now own at least one smart home device, according to a survey of 1,611 people by digital association Bitkom. The smart TV and voice assistants are the best known new technologies in Germany, with 76 percent of respondents saying they were familiar with either of these technologies in a new survey of 2,000 German households in May by the trade association Gfu Consumer & Home Electronics. The number of complaints about possibly illegal web content in Germany increased in 2017, according to the annual report of industry group Eco.
