WarnerMedia’s streaming platform HBO Max will start its European rollout in the Nordics and Spain this coming autumn, followed by Central and Eastern Europe plus Portugal next year, reports Variety, citing regional WarnerMedia executives. The service debuted in 39 territories across Latin America and the Caribbean last June, a year after its US launch.
The upcoming launch plans were confirmed at a TV festival in Lille, France, by Priya Dogra, president of WarnerMedia Europe, the Middle East and Africa and Asia (excluding China) and Christina Sulebakk, general manager of HBO Max EMEA. “Europe is a huge priority for us,” said Dogra. “We now have the US and LatAm under our belt. We feel very good about those successes there and the growth that we’re seeing. Europe is a complicated market, but it’s an exciting one,” she said.
Sulebakk added that the plan is to take a staggered approach to the platform’s global rollout. “We’re looking into new market launches when appropriate when we think we have the good offer to bring consumers in market,” she said, adding that all of the WarnerMedia slate, including HBO, Max originals, DC, Warner Bros and Cartoon Network, would be available on the service alongside acquisitions from third parties.
