Italy automatically blocks premium mobile subscription services

Monday 8 February 2021 | 10:04 CET | News
Italian communications regulator Agcom has approved a series of measures to ensure premium subscription services are blocked on SIM cards by default in the absence of explicit consent from users. Following a public consultation, the watchdog said it will take steps to prevent the automatic activation of all premium subscription services provided via SMS and MMS on mobile networks with the sole exclusion of services that allow users to make charity donations as well as access banking, postal, mobile ticketing and tele voting services.
