Netflix plans to invest over EUR 500 million to produce 80 series, films and shows in the DACH region, the founder and CEO of the streaming platform Reed Hastings said, according to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Netflix has opened a new office in Berlin to oversee the German, Austrian and Swiss markets. Around 80 employees will work there initially.
FAZ quoted Hastings as saying Germany, Austria and Switzerland are one of the most important regions in the world for Netflix. Hastings has also introduced a number of well-known German directors, authors, producers and actors such as Jantje Friese, Matthias Schweighoefer, Christian Schwochow, Matthias Murmann and Edward Berger to show that it intends to increase the number of local productions.
