Ofcom allows EE to use 1,800 MHz spectrum for 4G services
UK communications regulator Ofcom has formally approved an application by Everything Everywhere to use its existing 1,800 MHz spectrum for 4G mobile services. Following a consultation, Ofcom has concluded that varying Everything Everywhere's 1800 MHz licences now would deliver significant benefits to consumers, and that there is no material risk that those benefits would be outweighed by a distortion of competition. Ofcom decided that delaying the decision would be detrimental to consumers. In parallel with this decision, Ofcom has now issued various licences to the company which authorise LTE services from 11 September 2012, although the precise timing of any launch is a commercial decision for Everything Everywhere.
