Orange launches Marseille LTE pilot; Lyon, Nantes next
Orange France will deploy LTE in Lyon and Nantes by the end of the year, announced group CEO Stephane Richard at an event to mark the start of LTE tests in Marseille. Another 12 cities will be added by the summer of 2013, he said. The operator will be working with 2,500 testers, including employees, consumers and business customers, in the three cities. Demonstrations at the Marseille pilot launch event featured a mobile HDTV application running on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, HD streaming of videos from Dailymotion on laptop computers connected by Wi-Fi to a Huawei LTE wireless modem and the 4G Gaming Cloud. Of Orange's 200 3G base stations in the city, 120 have already been upgraded to LTE and another 30 will be by the end of the year.
