Salto to launch on 20 October amid ongoing distribution talks with French operators

Salto, the joint venture of France Televisions, M6 and TF1, announced on Twitter that its SVoD streaming service will go live on 20 October. First unveiled in mid-2018, the platform went through a private beta-testing phase during the summer, after missing its Q1 2020 launch target. It is now set to make its market debut with a content catalogue of 10,000 hours of programmes, and a pricing structure based on the number of screens that subscribers can access simultaneously. For EUR 6.99/month, the entry-level 'Solo' plan will offer the full catalogue on one screen.

The monthly cost rises to EUR 9.99 with the 'Duo' mid-tier tariff (two screens) and to EUR 12.99 with the top-tier 'Tribu' plan (four screens). At launch, new sign-ups will receive the first month free of charge.

Alongside the on-demand content library, subscribers will be able to stream live TV, with a choice of around 20 channels. Among its main selling points, Salto will launch a number of programmes on its platform ahead of broadcast, and will give viewers access to TV series with the full season available from the outset.

According to the Salto website, the service will be accessible at launch on connected TVs, PCs, and other small screens. As reported by Capital, the joint venture has yet to finalise distribution deals to extend its presence to the IPTV platforms of the country's four main network operators. Talks with Bouygues Telecom are believed to be the most advanced, as the operator's sister company TF1 is one of Salto’s shareholders.
