Public broadcaster France Televisions has reached an agreement with private broadcasters M6 and TF1 on the creation of a common SVoD portal, called Salto. In a joint statement, the three parties said that the new service will offer a choice of subscriptions without minimum contract period. Its content offering will include live TV, replay, and online previews, alongside a large library of programmes.
According to Le Figaro, Salto's business model will be entirely based on paid-for services, rather than a mix of advertising and subscription revenues. The choice of monthly plans will include options priced EUR 1.99 and EUR 6.99.
France Televisions had been previously planning to introduce its own SVoD portal in France during autumn 2017, but the launch was postponed to explore the project of a common platform with private broadcasters.
The company behind Salto, owned in equal parts by the three partners, will be open to deals with other content providers. The timescale for launch remains to be confirmed, as the venture requires approval from the relevant authorities.
