Sony will start testing its online TV service in the US in the coming weeks. Andrew House, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, said that the company would start commercial operation of the service, called PlayStation Vue, within two weeks in New York, Chicago and Philadelphia, following invitation-only tests in those cities. The company plans to roll out the new service nationwide by the end of this year, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Sony has agreed channels for the service with CBS, Viacom, NBCUniversal and 21st Century Fox. Discussions with other content providers are “ongoing and are moving forward positively,” House said in an interview with the paper.
Vue works over the PlayStation 3 and 4 gaming systems. Sony said last November that it plans to expand the service later to more Sony devices and third-party platforms. No pricing for Vue has been disclosed yet, but Sony said it will be available without a fixed-term contract.
