Telecom Italia confirms activation of 200Mbps FTTC service in over 700 localities
Telecom Italia (TIM) has confirmed the activation of fibre-to-the-curb (FTTC) services in well over 700 localities all over the country in response to the ‘Cura Italia’ decree to boost the country’s infrastructure due to the coronavirus crisis. The fibre service is now available in hundreds of previously underserved localities in areas of low population density in Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Sicily, Tuscany, Lazio, Abruzzo, Sardinia, Umbria, Molise, Marche, Emilia Romagna, Molise, Marche, Campania, Calabria and Basilicata, giving subscribers internet access at download speeds of up to 200 Mbps, at least double the previous maximum.

TIM previously said existing ADSL customers in the newly-covered localities will be able to switch to a fibre plan at no extra cost.
