Telenet to produce own TV series
Belgian cable operator Telenet plans to start producing its own TV content. The first production will be the TV series 'Chaussée d'Amour', a 10-episode Flemish drama series by the producer deMensen. All the episodes will be released at the same time in 2016 to customers on Telenet's video-on-demand subscriptions Rex and Rio. The strategy is borrowed from Netflix, which has just launched on the Belgian market. The series will be financed from the STAP investment fund, to which Telenet has contributed EUR 30 million in the past four years to support Flemish audiovisual works.

Telenet Q3 revenues up 5%, maintains FY outlook

Belgian cable operator Telenet reported third-quarter revenues of EUR 432.3 million, up 5 percent from a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA totaled EUR 227.3 million, giving a margin of 52.6 percent. Net profit was EUR 22.6 million. Telenet said it had a strong operational performance, as the focus on triple- and quad-play plans helped push churn to the lowest level in five years. Convergence may drive Orange, KPN from Belgian market

Belgian cable operator Telenet has announced it does not plan any upcoming shareholders remuneration. The announcement led to speculation the company is holding onto its cash for an acquisition, possibly Orange's local subsidiary Mobistar. KPN's Belgian unit Base could similarly be the subject of takeover rumours.

Telenet drops dividend

Belgian cable operator Telenet announced it has decided not to propose any dividend, due to the "current operating environment". The company said it remains committed to shareholder returns in line with its long-term net debt to EBITDA target. The announcement follows a downgrade in the operator's annual outlook at its interim report in July. Netflix launches in Belgium

Netflix has launched its streaming video service in Belgian. The company offers the first month free and then the subscription starts at EUR 7.99 per month. For HD streaming and access from two devices, the price if EUR 8.99, and services over four devices cost EUR 11.99 per month. Telenet extends HBO content deal

Telenet has extended and expanded its exclusive content agreement with HBO. This makes the cable operator the exclusive 'Home of HBO' in Flanders until 2018. The deal includes access to full series from HBO and the catalogue of its channel Cinemax. Telenet said it will have access to new HBO series a day after their broadcast in the US. At the moment, Belgian viewers have to wait up to seven days for new episodes.

EBU opposes Telenet takeover in content market

Telenet buys 50% in De Vijver Media

Cable operator Telenet agreed to acquire Sanoma Media's 50 percent stake in De Vijver Media for EUR 26 million.
