TikTok denies being under control of Chinese state

Video sharing platform TikTok has denied claims that it is controlled by the Chinese government, BBC News reports.

TikTok's head of public policy for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Theo Bertram, told the BBC's Today programme that it would refuse any request for data from Chinese authorities, and described claims that it was controlled by the Chinese state as "completely and utterly false".

Following reports that TikTok had abandoned plans to set up an international base in the UK, Bertram said that the company had not made any decisions about the location of its international headquarters, adding that TikTok was committed to further growth in the UK.
