Vodafone and DT cancel physical stands at MWC Barcelona - report

Vodafone and Deutsche Telekom are the latest companies to cancel their physical stands at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, reports Spanish business daily El Economista. Both operators are committed to attending the virtual conference but will not have their usual stands at the physical event in spite of health and safety assurances from the GSMA. “Our stand will be digital and our physical attendance will be limited to some members of our Executive Committee”, said Vodafone, according to the report. Vodafone group CEO Nick Read is one of the confirmed speakers at the event.

Google, Intel, Ericsson, Nokia, Sony, Facebook, Cisco, Oracle, Qualcomm and Lenovo, among other companies, previously announced their withdrawal from the in-person event, scheduled to take place from 28 June to 01 July. The Spanish government has agreed to lift Covid travel restrictions and allow all registered professional participants to travel to Barcelona for the scaled back in-person event, for which the GSMA has made available thousands of tickets at discounted rates.
