Xiaomi launches mid-range Redmi Note 9S with 5,000mAh battery
Xiaomi has officially launched the Redmi Note 9S smartphone, the international version of the Redmi Note 9 Pro introduced in India earlier this month as a successor to the popular Redmi Note 8 Pro. The mid-range Android 10 device has a 6.67-inch Full HD+ display, with a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back, and is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC. Xiaomi was keen to emphasise the phone’s 5,020mAh battery, which it says keeps users fully powered throughout the day, even during heavy usage. It also comes with 18W fast charging and a 22.5W in-box charger.  

Additional features include a quad rear camera setup with a 48-megapixel main camera, backed by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, 5-megapixel macro lens and 2-megapixel depth sensor. On the front is a 16-megapixel in-display selfie camera. The handset also offers a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that doubles as a power button and a headphone jack.

The Redmi Note 9S will initially be available in a combination of either 4GB RAM and 64GB storage or 6GB/128GB in southeast Asian markets including Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand for around USD 249 and USD 279 respectively. Information regarding its availability and price in other markets will be announced in due course, said Xiaomi.

Xiaomi profits fall in Q4 on marketing push to boost overseas growth

Xiaomi reported revenues for the fourth quarter of 2019 up 27.1 percent year-on-year to CNY 56.5 billion. Net profit for the period fell to CNY 2.4 billion from CNY 3.4 billion a year earlier, after a sharp rise in marketing and promotional spend to boost sales outside China.

Xiaomi adds Redmi Pro models to low-cost 5G range

Xiaomi announced two new smartphones in its low-cost Redmi range, the Redmi K30 Pro and K30 Pro Zoom edition. These add to the Redmi K30 first launched in December 2019 as the first 5G model under the brand. In addition, Xiaomi introduced a new smart display and smart TV under the Redmi brand.

Xiaomi reopens 1,800 shops, says supply chain is at 80%

Xiaomi said its Wuhan office, with 2,000 employees, now has a zero infection rate and that it has reopened over 1,800 Mi Home and authorised Mi Stores in Mainland China. The company has not changed its 5G product launch strategy and expects at least 10 new 5G smartphone models to hit the market this year. The launch of the Redmi K30 Pro should go smoothly on 24 March, as scheduled, the company said.

Xiaomi spins off Poco brand, to launch more premium phones in India

Xiaomi said that Poco, the sub-brand it unveiled in the summer of 2018, is now an independent company, TechCrunch reported. Xiaomi VP Manu Kumar made the announcement, saying Poco had grown into its own identity and that it was right to let the secondary brand operate on its own. Xiaomi did not specifiy now Poco was spun off or how it would be structured.

Xiaomi has followed the unveiling of its flagship Mi Note 10 smartphone by announcing the launch of another mid-range device in its popular Redmi series. Xiaomi has followed last month's unveiling of its mid-range Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro smartphones with the launch of the entry-level Redmi 8A in India. Xiaomi officially launches Redmi Note 8 Pro in Europe

Xiaomi has officially launched the mid-range Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphone in Europe around a month after introducing it in China. The device presented at an event in Madrid is the brand's first ever with a 64 MP camera, using Samsung's GW1 64MP sensor in a quad camera setup.
