Belgian court overturns Wallonia tax on mobile antennas
Belgium's Constitutional Court has overturned the tax on mobile antennas imposed by the Wallonia region. The court upheld an appeal from the operators Base, Proximus and Mobistar against the tax started in late 2013, De Tijd reports. The tax was as much as EUR 8,000 per site per year, in addition to fees levied by municipalities.

The federal government had joined the mobile operators' appeal, which questioned whether the region had the authority to impose such as tax. The court found that the region was impinging on the fiscal autonomy of municipalities as well as the federal government's authority to collect taxes. The Wallonia government has since withdrawn the tax from its budget, but the court ruling stands for any eventual claims.
