
Discovery said it finished the year with over 11 million total paying direct-to-consumer subscribers wordwide for its its Discovery+ (plus) streaming service. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said the company is on pace to have 12 million subscribers by the end of February.
The service made its debut in the UK and Ireland in late 2019, launching in the US in January 2020, and other countries later.
The company inked deals with Verizon in the US, Sky in the UK and Ireland, and Vodafone across several European markets, and rebranded dplay in certain international markets. However, it failed to reach agreement with European operators such as the Czech Republic’s Skylink and Focus Sat in Romania, according to BroadbandTV News.
