EA to acquire Golf Clash maker for USD 1.4 billion from AT&T

AT&T has agreed to sell the mobile games studio Playdemic, maker of the popular game Golf Clash, to Electronic Arts. EA will pay USD 1.4 billion cash for the subsidiary of Warner Bros. Games.

Golf Clash is one of the leading mobile games in the US and UK and has more than 80 million downloads globally to date. UK-based Playdemic was started in 2010 and makes the game for Android, iOS and Facebook platforms.

The acquisition is part of EA’s efforts to expand in mobile games and in the sports segment. It sees an opportunity to expand the clash concept to other franchises and drive more growth in mobile experiences.

The divestment contributes to AT&T's efforts to raise cash to reduce debt. The rest of Warner Bros. Games will become part of the planned joint venture between WarnerMedia and Discovery
