Huawei seeks to stop Motorola sale to Nokia Siemens Networks

Chinese telecommunications equipment maker Huawei Technologies has filed a lawsuit to stop Motorola from selling its mobile networks unit to Nokia Siemens Networks. Huawei and Motorola have cooperated in the radio access network and core network businesses, where Motorola has resold Huawei wireless network products to customers under the Motorola name. Huawei says that due to its relationship with Motorola, the latter has information, including plans for future products and technical specifications, and Huawei is concerned that Motorola could disclose and misuse this information. Huawei said it has been unable to obtain assurances from Motorola that it will not disclose the IP information, and as a result the company has alleged a possible infringement of intellectual property rights by Motorola in a lawsuit filed in the US. Motorola Solutions said the case is without merit and said it still aims to close the Nokia Siemens Networks deal early this year. The company said in December that the takeover was delayed to the first quarter of this year as it had yet to receive regulatory clearance in China.
