KPN, Ericsson test LTE broadcast at Ajax match
Ericsson announced it participated in a trial of LTE Broadcast technology with Dutch operator KPN on 03 May. The first LTE broadcast trial in the Netherlands was conducted at the Amsterdam Arena along with Qualcomm Technologies, Samsung and IBM. The trial took place during the football match between Ajax and NEC. 

Ericsson's LTE Broadcast equipment supports the delivery of the same content simultaneously to multiple users, with the capability to support a virtually unlimited number of users, thereby maintaining efficient use of spectrum and network equipment. It also enables operators and their media partners to provide premium video services with guaranteed quality and cost-efficient delivery over LTE. The equipment is based on the standards eMBMS, HEVC and MPEG DASH. 

KPN said it was "enthusiastic about the success of the pilot and is currently exploring [its] next steps".

Ericsson and the Polish operator Polkomtel are testing LTE Broadcast in Poland, the first such trial in the country. Dutch research institute TNO is starting a project to look at broadcast possibilities over 4G networks.
