Murdoch warns blocking Sky, Fox deal could affect post-Brexit investment

21st Century Fox CEO James Murdoch has warned the UK Government not to block Fox's proposed takeover of Sky, insisting that Brexit makes it more important than ever for the UK to attract investment, reports The Guardian. Speaking at a Royal Television Society convention in Cambridge, Murdoch said that inward investment in the UK creative economy would send an important message to business worldwide as the country prepares to leave the EU.

His comments come after Culture Secretary Karen Bradley confirmed plans to refer the deal to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) for an in-depth investigation on media plurality and broadcasting standards grounds. Murdoch said he was disappointed that the merger had been referred, but was confident that the deal would still go through.
