Netflix acquires ABQ Studios, to open New Mexico production hub
Netflix announced that it’s acquiring ABQ Studios in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as part of a plan to bring USD 1 billion in production to the state over the next ten years and create up to 1,000 production jobs a year. ABQ Studios, with 8 sound stages and over 170,000 square feet of space, has been used to film shows including The Avengers, Logan, Better Call Saul, The Lone Ranger and Sicario.

In a statement Netflix said this is the company’s first purchase of a production studio complex and the new facility will be used to produce series including Daybreak, Chambers and Messiah. Previous Netflix productions in New Mexico include the Emmy Award-winning limited series Godless, The Ridiculous Six and Longmire.

Earlier this year Netflix announced the imminent inauguration of new headquarters for the production of European original content in Spain. The streaming giant signed a multi-year contract with Spanish broadcaster and producer Grupo Secuoya, with the latter set to manage all projects produced by Netflix on the 22,000 square-meter Ciudad de la Tele production hub in the northern Madrid suburb of Tres Cantos.
