Orange says German mobile merger nod would cause shake-up

Orange CEO Stephane Richard considers that an eventual regulatory approval of Telefonica's and KPN's proposal to merge their German assets would result in a shake-up of Europe's telecommunications industry, writes Bloomberg. Richard spoke in Paris on 09 September about the matter. Richard said such a move would force other countries to rethink their positions on consolidation. The acquisition of KPN's E-Plus by Telefonica Deutschland Holding, which sells services under the O2 brand, will be analysed by European competition watchdogs. Richard also said Orange would seek to consolidate its position in Spain and Poland and look at fixed-line acquisitions in Belgium and Romania.
