Orange selects Ericsson to ramp up mobile money service in Africa

Orange Middle East and Africa has signed a deal to deploy Ericsson’s Wallet Platform for its mobile money services across fourteen countries. Ericsson said the roll-out in the Orange Money footprint starts with Senegal.

Ericsson’s platform is expected to provide a more agile and compliant IT architecture to enhance performance in managing the flow of transactions. Ericsson will help promote financial inclusion and economic development across these countries.

Orange Money has grown rapidly since it was launched in 2008 and is available to more than 60 million subscribers in seventeen countries across Africa and the Middle East. The platform facilitated more than EUR 62 billion in transactions in 2020 alone. The offering provides financial services through a flexible and simple mobile phone interface, without the need for a bank account.

More than 300 million people worldwide already use Ericsson’s Wallet Platform, delivered by communications service providers.
