Qualcomm has told regulators worldwide that it has strong concerns about the proposed acquisition of UK-based chip designer Arm by Nvidia, reports CNBC.
According to unnamed sources familiar with the matter, Qualcomm has raised objections to the deal with the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) in the UK, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the US, and the European Commission. The sources said that Qualcomm had spoken with anti-trust law and merger officials at the regulators.
The FTC’s investigation has moved to a “second phase” already, the report said. The US regulator has asked SoftBank, Nvidia and Arm to provide it with more information, according to two sources familiar with the deal. The information gathering is expected to take several months, and the regulator will also consult other market parties.
Qualcomm declined to comment. Nvidia told CNBC that it was confident the takeover would be cleared by regulators.
