Sunrise UPC loses 6,000 customers, sees drop in revenues, EBITDA in Q4

Sunrise UPC lost 6,000 customers in the fourth quarter of 2020. UPC Switzerland halved its losses to 12,000 customers in Q4 compared to a loss of 23,000 customers in the fourth quarter the prior year, while Sunrise added 6,000 customers in the period. On a pro forma basis following the acquisition of Sunrise by Liberty Global through its subsidiary UPC Switzerland, Sunrise UPC lost 44,900 customers in 2020, compared to a loss of 73,600 customers in 2019.

Taken separately, Sunrise's postpaid customer grew by 48,700, internet customers by 13,600 and TV customers by 12,300. The number of mobile customers at UPC rose by 18,000 in Q4, and broadband customers by 2,000. In Q4 2020, Sunrise and UPC saw total net adds of 66,700 postpaid mobile customers and 29,000 fixed-line RGUs. At the end of 2020, Sunrise and UPC together had 2.79 million mobile customers, 1.18 million broadband customers and 1.27 million TV customers in Switzerland.

Rebased revenue declined by 2.6 percent year-on-year to USD 642.9 million in Q4, primarily due to the net effect of lower consumer subscription revenue as a result of customer losses and ARPU pressure, and a growth in mobile revenues driven by an increase in subscribers. Rebased EBITDA fell by 7.9 percent to USD 254.4 million, mainly due to the loss of consumer subscriptions, and in turn revenues, and pre-merger costs of USD 10.4 million, partially offset by lower programming costs.
