Tele2 confirms Norway exit under consideration

Tele2 is in the process of evaluating a number of "strategic opportunities" for its Norwegian operations, the company announced. These include entering a strategic partnership, selling Tele2 Norway to one or several parties, or continue growing the business organically as part of the Tele2 Group. ABG Sundal Collier Holding was hired to advise the operator. 

The statement follows a report from Bloomberg that the company is considering exiting the Norwegian market, after it failed to win spectrum in the auction last year. The report suggested that Hutchison Whampoa could be a buyer of assets in the Nordic region. Earlier reports pointed to a possible alliance between Tele2 and Access Industries, the owner of Ice.net that won spectrum in the 800, 900 and 1,800 MHz bands last year.

Tele2 has agreed to exit the Norwegian market and sell its activities there to TeliaSonera for SEK 5.3 billlion cash. Telenor Norway says 4G grid covers 70% of population

Telenor Norway said it has now 1,200 new 4G base stations in place. The operator won frequencies in the 800 MHz auction in December 2013 and says 200 municipalities will get LTE on those frequencies before the summer holidays commence. Coverage director Bjorn Amundsen said coverage has risen from 52 percent of the population when Telenor started the deployment in March, to 70 percent currently.

Telenor Norway said it has signed a national roaming agreement for Tele2's customers in the Norwegian market. It will come into force on 01 July and will apply to the brands Tele2, One Call, My Call and Network Norway. The contract is based on the standard agreement concerning national roaming. Tele2 Norway launches 4G on 01 May, adds data to 'Large'

Tele2 Norway said that it will start providing 4G mobile services at up to 40 Mbps on 01 May, adding that this will pose a challenge to its competitors. Tele2 has previously said it was reviewing its Norwegian operations, after it failed to gain spectrum in December's auction. Tele2 said its Norwegian operations, which are under review, saw EBITDA improve to a positive SEK 22 million in the first quarter of 2014 from a loss of SEK 17 million in the last quarter of last year, with mobile EBITDA at SEK 10 million against a SEK 20 million loss and fixed line EBITA also at SEK 10 million, up from a positive SEK 1 million. Norway govt to auction unsold 1800 MHz spectrum

Norwegian postal and telecoms regulator PT said the Ministry of Transport and Communications (SD) has decided to put frequencies in the 1710-1725 MHz and 1805-1820 MHz bands (2 x 15 MHz) up for auction. This is spectrum that was not allocated in last year's auction. PT is running consultation on the allocation with a deadline of 02 May. Tele2 Norway Q4 sales hit by lower mobile termination fees

Tele2 Norway reported net sales of SEK 987 million in the fourth quarter, down from SEK 1.229 billion, dented by the reduction of mobile termination rates and negative currency movements.
