VTR may become MVNO
Chilean mobile operator VTR, owned by Liberty Global, could become a MVNO from the fourth quarter of 2013, according to a Liberty Global filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The company said it is examining "strategic alternatives" for the Chilean mobile operator, including "the disposition of VTR Wireless' mobile network in favor of expanded MVNO arrangements". While the proposal was still under review in early August when the SEC filing was made, Liberty Global said it had accelerated depreciation on VTR's mobile network as it expects to stop using the network in the fourth quarter of 2013. VTR launched its own network in May 2012 and also has a roaming agreement with Movistar for five years, which it signed in 2011.

VTR converts to full MVNO

Liberty Global considers VTR spin-off

Liberty Global is considering a spin-off of its Latin American activities. Its main assets there are 80 percent in the Chile cable and mobile operator VTR and 60 percent of a cable network in Puerto Rico. VTR Movil disconnects 44% of subscribers in three months

Chilean operator VTR Movil has disconnected 61,000 prepaid connections, reducing the user base by 44 percent to 80,000 customers, reports Diario Financiero. The data is taken from a report filed by parent company Liberty Global with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). In September, Liberty Global shortened the period for excluding inactive pre-paid customers to only 30 days, compared to an industry average of around six months.

Chilean cable operator VTR will launch a streaming TV service, possibly even by the end of the year, according to general manager Guillermo Ponce. VTR revenues rise 11.4% in Q2

Chilean cable operator VTR saw its second-quarter revenues increase by 11.4 percent to EUR 252.7 million, from EUR 226.8 million in the year-ago period, parent company UPC reported. Operating cash flow grew by 15.3 percent to EUR 86.8 million. ARPU was CLP 30,681 for the three months ended June, compared to CLP 29,990 at 30 June 2011.

Chilean operator VTR posted revenues of USD 250.4 million for the first quarter, up 11.5 percent from a year earlier.
