Dominican Republic hoping to raise up to USD 300 mln in 5G tenders

The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) said it expects to raise USD 200 to USD 300 million in the country’s tender of 5G-compatible frequencies. In a statement setting out its agenda for the year, Indotel said the auction of 90 MHz of frequencies in the 700 MHz band and 160 MHz in the 3.5 GHz bands will start in May and last until September.

Indotel head Nelson Arroyo also announced plans to continue rolling out fibre-optic networks throughout the country under the National Broadband Plan, backed by the Inter-American Bank Development (BID) and already approved by the National Congress.

The government also intends to complete the country’s transition to digital TV by 2022, said Arroyo, adding that USD 30 million will be spent this year alone to help economically vulnerable residents access the digital signal.
