Microsoft has introduced an app that gathers all user news feed and information preferences into one place. The new Microsoft Start app provides and streamlines personalised content on PCs and mobile phones using new tech such as AI and machine learning, as well as human moderation.
Microsoft said the app curates content based on interest, from over 1,000 global premium publishing brands. The more users engage with the content, the more refined the feed becomes. Users can also opt to jumpstart the personalisation process by directly managing interests. For a quick update on the news, the app provides “information cards” which users can adjust if they want to. These could include local weather reports and news, stock market updates, shopping sites, traffic conditions or sports scores.
All interests and preferences set in the PC are synced to the user’s mobile devices by logging in with the Microsoft account.
Microsoft Start has started rolling out. The app is available on both Android and iOS and also as a standalone website available on Microsoft Edge and Chrome. It is also available from the News and Interests experience on the Windows 10 taskbar, from the Widgets experience in Windows 11 and from the Microsoft Edge new tab page.
