Optus begins TD-LTE trial in Canberra

Australian operator Optus has unveiled its network plans for the coming year. Optus will add TD-LTE technology to its FD-LTE network, starting in Canberra. Optus' LTE network currently covers Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay,Toowoomba, and the Newcastle/Hunter regions. The company has begun a customer trial of the technology on the 2300 MHz band in Canberra with a dual-band dongle and a Wi-Fi modem. Optus plans to expand coverage of both types of 4G in the coming year to over 70 percent of the metro population by mid-2014.
