Optus launches TD-LTE network
Australian telecommunications provider Optus has launched a second 4G network, called 4G Plus, in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide. The new network uses 2300 MHz spectrum and TD-LTE technology, The Australian writes. Optus first trialled the technology in Canberra. The company plans to reach 70 percent of urban Australians with 4G by mid-2014.

Optus tests TD-LTE Advanced carrier aggregation

Australian telecommunications provider Optus, with network equipment vendor Huawei, has begun testing TD-LTE Advanced carrier aggregation. During the tests at the St Marys test facility, Optus achieved a throughput of 520 Mbps, by combining four 20 MHz channels of the 2,300 MHz spectrum band into 80 MHz. Optus launches Thuraya SatSleeve

Australian telecommunications carrier Optus has begun selling the Thuraya SatSleeve through Optus Business. Thuraya SatSleeve allows iPhone users to turn their handsets into a satellite phone by docking it to the SatSleeve device. The Thuraya SatSleeve also doubles as a backup battery for the iPhone to enable extended talk and standby time. The device is priced at AUD 690.

Optus launches phone trade in programme

Australian telecommunications provider Optus has launched a trade in programme. Available to new and re-contracting postpaid mobile customers, the "Trade In, Trade Up" programme offers customers credit towards their next My Plan phone bill, depending on the model, popularity, and condition of the phone. Customers are encouraged to back up and then delete their personal information from their phones prior to trade in.

Parents concerned about child's mobile use

Some 32 percent Australian parents have been hit by a high mobile bill from their children and 33 percent of these had received a bill of AUD 300 or more. The research, by mobile operator Optus, also found that 57 percent of parents would not be financially able to pay a high bill received due to their child's overuse and one in three parents would need to make a sacrifice to cover the cost. Optus to offer dual-mode Galaxy S4 in September

Australian communications carrier Optus has partnered with Samsung on dual-mode LTE devices. Samsung conducted testing of the dual band TDD/FDD-LTE versions of the Galaxy S4 mini and Galaxy S4 handsets on the Optus network in Australia. Australian telecommunications carrier Optus has launched LTE services in Wollongong, New South Wales. Australian telecommunications provider Optus has completed an expansion of its 4G and 3G mobile networks in Adelaide; switching on 25 new LTE and upgrading over 150 3G sites.
