Vodafone Germany to transition to digital cable in summer 2018
Vodafone Germany announced it will begin working on the full digitisation of its entire cable network in the summer of 2018 as the company moves towards its goal of supplying gigabit-speed connections to its 12.6 million cable customers, or one-third of German households, across 13 states in Germany.

Vodafone said the municipalities of Landshut and Dingolfing in Lower Bavaria will serve as pilot regions for the transition to digital on 09 January, with additional regions throughout Germany to follow step by step from the summer of 2018 onward. Vodafone customers with a full-service cable connection will not pay any additional monthly costs for unencrypted digital transmissions following the transition.

The digitisation of Vodafone's cable network will free up frequencies currently occupied by analogue TV and radio and make them available for gigabit-speed internet connections and digital and HD TV offerings, said the company.
