Alcatel-Lucent has reached the milestone of 10 million VDSL2 vectoring line shipments. The equipment maker marked the event by awarding a golden line card to Belgian operator Proximus (formerly Belgacom), which was the world's first company to deploy a nationwide VDLS2 vectoring network. The 10 million line milestone was reached in the fourth quarter of 2014, only three years after Alcatel-Lucent launched the first VDLS2 vectoring solution.
Alcatel-Lucent currently has 27 VDSL2 vectoring customers in every region of the world, including Israel's Bezeq, KPN in the Netherlands, Telecom Argentina, Telecom Italia, TE Data in Egypt and NBN in Australia, with more than 65 commercial trials of the technology conducted by operators.
VDSL2 vectoring allows operators to deploy ultra-broadband services of up to 100 Mbps over their existing copper telephone networks, making it quick and economical to deploy as a complement to FTTH. As a result, operators can rapidly meet rising customer demand for high-definition television, video-on-demand and online gaming while protecting existing investments.
