Altice to invest USD 670 mln in Dominican Republic by 2022

Altice is planning to invest some DOP 33 billion (around USD 670 million) in the Dominican Republic from 2018 to 2022, reports local portal El Dia, citing Altice Dominicana CEO Martin Roos. The company will invest DOP 6.6 billion (USD 135 million) this year to boost networks and upgrade infrastructure via the installation of some 1,400 LTE antennas, said Roos, adding that the operator will also be looking to expand its recently-launched triple play offer.

Last year the company invested some DOP 6.4 billion (USD 130 million) in ramping up its infrastructure and another DOP 2.4 billion in smartphone subsidies. It also merged its Orange Dominicana and Tricom units after Dominican Republic watchdog Indotel finally approved the transaction.

The Dominican Republic reached 8.9 million mobile lines at the end of July, according to the latest update from the country's telecommunications watchdog Indotel. Dominican Republic suspends AWS spectrum tender

The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) has suspended a tender for a 30MHz block of spectrum in the 1700-2100MHz (AWS) band following a complaint from Servicios Ampliados de Telefonos (Satel). In a statement, Indotel said it decided to halt the process after Satel complained that it already owns the rights to operate those frequencies. Altice's Dominican Republic revenues fall 14% to EUR 146 mln in Q4

Altice announced fourth-quarter revenues of EUR 145.9 million for its Altice Dominicana brand in the Dominican Republic, down 14.3 percent year on year on a reported basis and 2.6 percent on a constant currency basis compared to the EUR 170.2 million posted a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA was down 8.5 percent year on year in local currency at EUR 78 million, with the EBITDA margin falling by 3.7 percentage points to 53.5 percent, negatively impacted by one-off rebranding costs of around EUR 5 million.

Molina named head of Dominican Republic watchdog

The Dominican Republic president Danilo Medina has appointed Luis Henry Molina as the head of the country's telecommunications regulator Indotel, replacing Jose Del Castillo who has been in the post since August 2016.
