Ericsson opens first 5G production line in Brazil

Ericsson opened its first 5G board production line at its Sao Jose dos Campos plant, the first in Brazil and Latin America to produce the technology, reports G1. The 5G cards will be used for the implementation and operation of the latest generation of mobile internet networks in the region.

In 2019, Ericsson announced it would invest BRL 1 billion in the new production line. Brazil's communications minister Fabio Faria attended the opening of the new line.

Ericsson Q2 revenues fall 1% on China slowdown, Networks still up strongly on 5G demand

Ericsson reported second-quarter revenues down 1 percent year-on-year to SEK 54.9 billion, hurt by a drop in sales in China. On an organic basis, excluding changes in scope and currency effects, revenues were up 8 percent, thanks to continued robust growth at its Networks division. Adjusted EBIT jumped 29 percent to SEK 5.8 billion, helped by improved operating leverage and the company's restructuring efforts, and net profit was up 51 percent to SEK 3.9 billion.

Ericsson awarded USD 135 mln Millicom LatAm network upgrade deal

Emerging markets telecommunications group Millicom, owner of Tigo-branded operations across Latin America, said it will be investing USD 135 million over the next two to three years to upgrade its mobile network in partnership with Ericsson in Honduras, Paraguay and Bolivia. Millicom said partnering with Ericsson will enable it to boost capacity by modernising its networks with LTE and 5G-ready technology.

Positivo Tecnologia sees 85% revenue growth in Q1

Brazilian PC and smartphone manufacturer Positivo Technologia reported revenues of BRL 809 million in Q1 2021, an increase of 85 percent on the same period last year. Net profit increased by 1,175 percent to BRL 56 million. The positive performance is mainly due to strong demand for notebooks because of home working and home schooling.

TIM Brasil and Ericsson launch 5G standalone pilot in Brazil

TIM Brasil and Ericsson announced the launch of a public safety pilot project developed over a 5G standalone network, reports O Estado de Sao Paulo. The initiative is the first of a series of 20 pilots that Brazil's Ministry of Communications is planning by the end of the year using the technology in different areas.

Ericsson underlying sales up 10% in Q1 as networks market share grows

Ericsson reported first-quarter sales flat at SEK 49.8 billion. The company said underlying growth excluding changes in scope and currencies reached 10 percent, supported by market share gains at its Networks business. Operating profit (EBIT) jumped 22 percent to SEK 5.3 billion, and the company's margin improved to 10.6 percent from 8.7 a year ago thanks to its cost saving efforts.

Ericsson said it has launched a new network programmability tool, called 5G Core Policy Studio, to enable communications service providers (CSPs) to more easily capture 5G revenue by offering differentiation. The tool handles the central management of all core network policies and is fully integrated with Ericsson's dual-mode 5G Core.

Brazil supports US Clean Network proposal

The Brazilian government announced it supports the US Clean Network proposal to create a global digital alliance that excludes technologies believed to be manipulated by China, reports Reuters. The endorsement came during a visit by Keith Krach, US Undersecretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment, who advised Brazil not to purchase 5G network equipment from China's Huawei Technologies, which he classified as "the backbone of China's global surveillance".

An Ericsson study on the 5G Business Potential in Brazil puts at BRL 67 billion the value of the IoT and 5G market in 2030. The study indicates that revenues from traditional services are likely to remain stagnant until 2030, and B2B scanning opportunities will grow at a much faster pace. By 2030, 5G B2B opportunities for service providers may account for up to 36 percent of currently available service revenues.

Claro Brasil opts for Ericsson Spectrum Sharing for 5G network

Ericsson has confirmed that Claro Brasil is using Ericsson's dynamic spectrum sharing technology to deploy the first 5G network in Latin America, using Claro's existing spectrum assets. The 5G services are being rolled out initially in twelve areas in Brazil, in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Thanks to Ericsson Spectrum Sharing, Claro is able to offer speeds of up to 400 Mbps, using more than 400,000 5G-ready radios delivered by Ericsson since 2015.
