Netflix acquires gaming firm Night School Studio

Netflix has acquired Night School Studio, a gaming company founded in 2014 by Sean Krankel and Adam Hines and best known for its debut game Oxenfree. Netflix said it is in the early stages of creating a new gaming experience for its members around the world. With Night School Studio, Netflix will further develop its service and library.

The firm wants to develop exclusive games for every kind of gamer and every level of play. The additional services will be included as part of the Netflix membership, with no ads and no in-app purchases.

Netflix launches mobile games for subscribers worldwide

Netflix subscriber growth improves in Q3, sees strong finish to 2021

Netflix reported better-than-expected results for the third quarter, with 4.38 million new streaming subscribers added compared to a forecast for around 3.5 million. Revenues rose 16.3 percent to USD 7.48 billion, and operating profit was 23.5 percent higher than a year ago at USD 1.76 billion. Netflix attributed the growth to an improved content line-up compared to the slow first half of the year and said it expects a strong finish to 2021.

The standard subscription, with two streams in HD quality, will cost EUR 13.99 from 10.99 per month while the premium subscription, with four streams in 4K, will go to EUR 15.99 from 13.99. The basic subscription price will remain the same, at EUR 7.99 per month.

Netflix rolls out first video games in Spain, Italy and Poland

Netflix has followed its acquisition of video game creator Night School Studio by launching its first mobile games in select European markets. According to a report in Tech Crunch, a total of five games are already available as free downloads to Netflix members in Spain, Italy and Poland. They can be accessed via a new "Games" tab on the company's Android app, with members simply needing to confirm their Netflix credentials to start playing after downloading the games from Google Play Store.
