
Apple has announced a shift in its executive team, with John Ternus taking over from Dan Riccio as head of the company’s Hardware Engineering organidation. Riccio joined Apple in 1998 and has led the division since 2012, in charge of designing, developing and engineering almost all of Apple’s products, leading namely its Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod engineering teams. Apple said Riccio will now transition to a new role, focusing on a new project, and reporting to CEO Tim Cook.
“Riccio will continue to play an instrumental role in shaping the future of Apple’s products in his new position as a vice president of engineering,” the company said.
Ternus joined Apple’s Product Design team in 2001 and has been a vice president of Hardware Engineering since 2013, heading the hardware team that designed the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro. He also worked on Apple’s M1 chips, according to the Verge. Ternus graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
