Ireland's Data Protection Commission is launching a statutory inquiry into Google's processing of location data. This comes after the Commission received a number of complaints from EU consumer groups about processing of location data by the company.
The DPC, which is responsible for oversight of Google's activities throughout the EU, said its investigation would examine whether the company has a valid legal basis for processing users' location data, and whether it is fulfilling its data controller obligations with regards to transparency surrounding this data processing.
