The Pentagon affirmed its prior JEDI cloud contract award to Microsoft after the deal was disputed in court for months. Amazon challenged the award of the contract after the Pentagon awarded it to Microsoft in October. Amazon said in a blog post it will continue to protest this alleged politically corrupted contract award.
AWS argued it offered a lower cost by several tens of millions of dollars. It added that the DoD’s decision to intentionally ignore the clear cost benefits offered by AWS reinforces the fact that this corrective action was never meant to be fair.
The Department of Defense's JEDI, or Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure, contract aims to modernise the Pentagon’s IT mega infrastructure and may be valued at up to USD 10 billion for services delivered over as many as 10 years.
The contract performance will not begin immediately due to the Preliminary Injunction Order issued by the Court of Federal Claims on 13 February, the DoD said.
