Verizon to offer YouTube TV, Apple TV with 5G fixed-wireless offer

Verizon announced that it will offer Apple TV and YouTube TV when it launches its residential 5G broadband service later this year. The TV services will be bundled with internet access when the 5G service launches in the cities Houston, Sacramento, Los Angeles and Indianapolis.

The decision to partner with Apple and YouTube sees Verizon moving away from its own managed TV services, after the previous failure of its go90 mobile video service. The Apple TV 4K box offers access to a range of OTT video content as well Apple Music. YouTube TV is an online streaming service that provides access to over 60 live TV channels in the US, for a subscription fee.

Verizon will provide more details on the pricing of the packages closer to launch. People familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that Verizon 5G broadband customers will be able to choose the Apple TV or YouTube TV free with their subscription. Subscribers to the 5G service will also be offered live NFL and NBA games, as well as news programs through Verizon’s own Oath media division.

Verizon has been testing the 5G fixed-wireless service with suppliers such as Samsung and expects to install the first connections for customers in the second half of this year. Its 5G mobile service is expected to launch in early 2019, once the first phones are available
