Amazon reaches 200 million Prime subscribers

Amazon.com has passed over 200 million subscribers for its Prime free delivery service. CEO Jeff Bezos gave the figure in an annual letter to shareholders. The company last reported 150 million Prime subscribers at the end of 2019

The Prime subscription gives Amazon buyers free delivery on most goods as well as additional services such as Amazon Prime Video, music streaming, online photo storage and other shopping discounts.

Bezos also said the company hired 500,000 employees last year, taking it to 1.3 million people directly employed around the world. In addition, more than 1.9 million SMEs sell on its marketplace, accounting for nearly 60 percent of retail sales on the platform.
