
Australian carrier Telstra will offer customers from March the option to trade up to a new smartphone after twelve months when they sign up to a new 24-month plan. The "Telstra New Phone Feeling" option is priced at AUD 10 per month on top a plan and customers must return the existing handset undamaged and in good working order.
Additionally, Telstra has introduced new Mobile Accelerate Plans which include a safety net for excess MMS and voice charges. Excess data rates in Australia have also been reduced from AUD 0.10 cents to AUD 0.03 cents per megabyte. The Mobile Accelerate Plans range from AUD 55 per month with an option for light data users who want a new phone with their plan, and tops out at AUD 130 per month with unlimited national voice, SMS and MMS to standard Australian numbers, and 3 GB of data to use in Australia.
